Challenging Auditions

April was a very challenging month for me, but I made it out alive in the end.  What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right?  May has been very challenging for me also but this time I welcomed all the challenges with open arms.  I’ve been really busy studying sides and preparing for auditions.  One of them was a self-taped audition which I was very eager to do.  I get excited about taped auditions because you get to submit your best work to the casting director.  You can do over as much as you like until you feel you’ve nailed the part.   My excitement turned into frustration because… here it comes, “Challenge #1.” My video editing program decided not to work and of course by the time I realized the problem I only had a few hours to figure it out before the deadline to submit my audition.  Yes, I did make it right in the nick of time. Whew!

Another audition I had this month was for a television show.  OMG! So super excited!  I confirmed my audition appointment right away.  Okay now for “Challenge #2.” I just started a new day job and my audition appointment conflicted with the time I had to work which was scheduled before the audition.  I didn’t want to have any issues with this audition.  A television show is a major opportunity and I agreed to what time they gave me.  Making that decision only meant that I would have to ruffle feathers at work, which is not good when you’re a new hire.  I did get scolded about changing my schedule last minute but I’m glad to say it all worked out.  I had a great audition and I’m still employed at my new job.

I don’t mind the challenges that come my way when it comes to acting and this whole thing we call show business.  When you enjoy what you do, it doesn’t feel like work.  It becomes a labor of love.  It can be overwhelming and tough decisions have to be made sometimes but it always works out.  Only half the month has gone by so I’m looking forward to what other challenges May might bring me.

Remember there are no problems, only solutions we haven’t discovered yet.
